Short Film: The Black Hole

How the 4 technical codes communicate meaning in the short film "The Black Hole".

Almost no colour in scene. Protagonist appears unhappy.
By applying a de-saturation effect to the short film, the viewer sees the office and its one occupant to be dull and colourless. This editing technique paired with the protagonists vacant facial expression and sighing makes the character appear fatigued and unhappy, possible with his lifestyle or career. Through the use of clever editing the viewer sees the character being able to put his hand through the 'black hole' (black circle on a piece of paper) giving him the ability to pass through objects to get to whatever is inside, for example, the vending machine scene in which his hand is able to pass through the glass, when aided by the 'black hole'.  This ability is further reinforced by the use of parallel sound (sci-fi'e
Character can pass through objects using 'black hole'
sque white noise) that is heard whenever the character puts his hand into the black hole making it seem real and responsive. The protagonist is seen to be unhappy with his job and not getting what he wants in life, the black hole gives him the ability to get whatever he wants and i
n the final scene the viewer sees the protagonist using the black hole to steal from his workplace and then him getting stuck inside the safe he was stealing from in the process. This could be representing the idea that greed (represented by the character stealing) will isolate you from others or perhaps ultimately imprison you (the safe being the prison).
